Recording Department
In 2001, the Missouri State Legislature passed a comprehensive statute
laying out the format and requirements for documents filed with the
Recorder of Deeds. These requirements were designed to allow us to
do a better job of recording and preserving records. The statute also
sets the filing fees for various types of records. In summary, the
statute requires a specific 'standard' format for information on the
first page of documents being filed. Documents which do not meet this
requirement are defined as 'non-standard'.
- All Real Estate documents must have a legal description.
- Typewritten documents must use at least an 8 point font.
- Only plats printed black on white or blue on white will be accepted
for recording. Blue on blue plats will be rejected for recording.
- Recording fee overages of $5.00 or less will be kept in the
Clay County General Fund. Overages of $6.00 or more will be rejected back
to the customer with a request for the correct recording fee.
